Fabulous in every way! - Rating 5/5
From the moment we arrived we knew we were somewhere special. Every single person we engaged with was delightful, from brining us our desperately needed cider and crisps in the garden, to making our breakfast and packed lunch the next day. The room was gorgeous, with lovely touches like fresh milk in a little fridge and the food was divine. Lots of it locally sourced with a great menu. Wish I was back there!

Wonderful - Rating 5/5
Dropped in here with a friend last year, on our last legs after a long day's walking, and received such a warm welcome we vowed to return. So this time we treated ourselves to an overnight as a reward after another long trek. This is a super pub - really friendly landlord and staff (and other guests), a great vibe, fab food and beautiful rooms. Can't recommend it enough - we're now planning to visit every year. Thanks!

excellent room though cold when we went in- we had to bleed the radiator ourselves to get it to work, fine when we sorted that. excellent breakfast organised by the most cheerful friendly young lady who had greeted us when we arrived. The landlord was fairly pleasant but could learn from his cheerful young staff how to make guests feel welcome.

Outstanding - Rating 5/5
A very unique pub off the beaten track with just two very comfortable rooms. We liked the pub’s welcoming, unpretentious approach. It is refreshingly free of the modish ‘gastro pub’ style but the food is good value and very well cooked: excellent pies and sensibly priced steaks and much more. Very good well kept beers. A welcoming log fire for winter evenings and a delightful country garden, including stream, pond and a tiny whitewashed church. Great local walks and not far from superb hill-walking in the Black Moutains. What’s not to like? And the breakfast was good too…

Idyllic country inn - Rating 4/5
This was a return visit and it was good to be back in such a lovely example of a country inn. We enjoyed the friendly welcome and cheerful atmosphere - and the quality of the cooking and choice of beers. The only reason for the missing 5th star is that the guest accommodation needs a bit of attention. The bedroom carpet is very discoloured amd a missing gasket made the shower tather difficult to use as the shower head slips down to a height of 4 feet. And the shower base is very slippery - but we brought our own mat!

Excellent Offas Dyke stopover- Rating 5/5
Spent a weekend walking Offas Dyke. The Hunters Moon is right on the path so perfectly placed for refreshments and an overnight stopover. This is a really lovely place and the staff so welcoming and friendly. The bar is dog friendly but not allowed in the rooms (fully understandable) but we were allowed to "camp" overnight in our campervan which was perfect for us. Dinner was fabulous (steak & ale pie) . Very good beers (butty bach), and I booked breakfast separately...absolutely anything we could possibly want. Highly recommended for anyone walking Offas Dykey.... or if you just love a friendly country pub. Thank you for a great weekend

Seeking somewhere to stay after a visit to St. Fagin s National Museum, we found the Hunters Moon in a ten year old G B G. I sounded perfect as indeed it was The setting, the room, the view, the food, the drinks and the pub it self all surpassed expectation, as did the welcome. We cannot recommend it more highly.Do not forget to visit the Church whilst visiting, it is a gem.

We , 4 of us (family) enjoyed our stay on Saturday15/07. We enjoyed sitting in the bar area, people watching ( locals mostly!?) followed by deliciousDinner, which the 4 of us enjoyed.Like to point out that we felt the wine-list was not up to standard to match the delicious food.3 fairly bland choices. You are in a wine growing region, hence supply local wine.

Nice looking accommodation with very friendly staff. The food was very good with an extensive choice. The choice of drinks in the bar was also extensive, with the Robinsons cider being exceptional. We had a very small shower cubicle in our room and it took forever to get any hot water. We also thought everything was overpriced.

Booked in for an overnight stay as part of a long distance walk on Offa’s Dyke/3 castles loop.Excellent food at both dinner and breakfast and welcoming staff.Room was clean with plenty of hot water for showers after a long day walking.Only downside was some disappointedly loud conversation in the bar in the evening with some swearing & pretty unpleasant, discriminatory language being used by one guest which could be heard across the bar - not the staff’s fault but wasn’t pleasant.Generally a very good stopping point if you’re walking either trail.

What a happy find! This is what one hopes every country pub will be like - a friendly welcome, a lovely location, a good dinner with good beer (or in my case cider). a comfortable bed and a sustaining breakfast. The wild boar ragu and breakfast sausages were particularly memorable. We've seldom been in such a peaceful and quiet spot and enjoyed the bonus of an attractive old church with unexpected treasures inside. You could even brew up tea in the church - continuing the feeling of real hospitality in the village! We left with regret, hoping that something will bring us back to the area again.

Cosy and friendly stay in beautiful surroundings- Rating 4/5
Myself and my partner stayed for two nights. The room was cosy and comfortable but a little grubby and threadbare in places (important stuff like sinks etc were spotless however). Plenty of tea and coffee on hand, although we could have done with the mugs being replaced after first night as they tend to smell if not scoured etc.. Staff very friendly and I recommend eating there. What we had was excellent and local and we wished we ate there for the second night also. Breakfast was good but comparatively lean/limited, example no beans to be found in kitchen and only two rounds of toast with meal- none offered for marmalade etc. Also I put down glutton free bread twice on forms asking me about 'special's dietary requirements' and when I asked in morning they had no idea that this request had been made?? This annoyed me I have to say as if I wasn't asked online I would have just brought my own and not felt aggrieved. While it wasn't all plain sailing, we really enjoyed our stay at Hunters Moon and we would book again in a heartbeat. If you love quiet country retreats away from the noise of traffic, in the shadow of a beautiful church with hills beckoning you on, then this is for you.

Fell in love with this place the instant we walked in to stay the night at the end of a long day walking the Offa's Dyke Path. Never had such a welcome. So good we returned by car for a weekend 6 weeks later and loved it just as much. A fellow traveller wanted to know why there aren't more pubs this good in the country. The simple answer is that there aren't enough publicans as good as the ones running The Hunter's Moon.

It was the perfect mix of friendly and welcoming, but also being left to your own devices. It really is very remote, but in the best way. The pub is cosy and a great mix of locals and those passing through. The food was really good - which is a relief as there's nowhere else nearby! The rooms were clean and cost, not done up with the latest mod cons but everything you need for a good night sleep. After a long day walking Offa's Dyke, it was exactly what we wanted and I would gladly stay there again.

Very friendly and welcoming - Rating 4/5
Hunters Moon is in a lovely setting with wonderful views. We arrived bedraggled after a long days walking and felt very welcome, even with very muddy boots, clothes and dog!A very friendly pub, with the locals going out of their way to help us with maps and directions. The food was superb, as was the breakfast the following morning. Our bedrooms had en-suites and were warm and 'quaint'.I felt they could do with a bit of updating, but my husband disagrees and says our stay at the Hunters Moon was the best night the lot!

It was charming little inn. Quaint room with a lovely view. The food was very good all freshly cooked to order. Recommend the sausages! Warm and friendly wellcome. Made us feel like a one of the locals
